Biblical Exegesis of Genesis (1:1-1:6)

Genesis is a book considered 'complicated' and 'hard to understand' for the modern reader. In reality, the book is simple and easy for the Bible-Believer! When we look at God's first creation (the heavens). They certainly do declare the glory of God! (Psalm 19:1) . This exegesis was written by Dr. Pastor Gene Kim's study on Genesis. Genesis 1:2

Earth was without form and empty.

Darkness was upon the face of the ocean.

Why would God create an earth that cannot be inhabited and had darkness? That would contradict who God is (Isaiah 45:18).

Therefore, there must've been a period before this world was destroyed. This is known as the Genesis Gap: God created heaven and earth for the sons of God to live in, including Lucifer. However, due to Lucifer’s rebellion. The LORD sent a universal flood, to punish for the rebellion.

God started from scratch. God sent a chaotic event that would wipe out the sons of God’s civilization. (Job 38:6-9), (2 Peter 3:4-6).

Other examples of gaps in the Bible:

Daniel 1:1-4: There is no information between Daniel’s deportation and being educated.

Luke 2:41-52: There is no information between young Jesus (twelve) and adult Jesus (thirty) when he began his public ministry.

(Genesis 1:3-5) This is before the sun and moon (Gen. 1:15-18). This means that there was light that existed before the ‘two great lights’.

Where did this light come from? (John 1:4-7)

Day and Night : (Revelation 21:25), (Revelation 22:5)

It calls night = spiritual darkness.

It calls day = spiritual light.

The light is from God and the LORD is present in Heaven. This means that the darkness is divided from Heaven.

Genesis 1:5 - This verse describes the day lasting from evening and morning. This indicating one (twenty-four hour) day.

Genesis 1:6 - “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”

Genesis 1:7 - The Hebrew word for firmament is a ‘beaten metal plate’. The firmament is what divides the waters of the universal flood. There’s water with the earth, and there’s water below the earth. There’s a firmament that divides the bottom waters of the universe and the waters that are with the earth.

This plate is known as ‘Heaven’. (Gen 1:8). This would be the first Heaven. The second Heaven is referring to space. (Gen. 1:16-17).

If the waters are above the universe where earth is, then what’s above this universe? Wouldn’t it be the Third Heaven? (Revelation 4:6).

In summary, the first eight verses of Genesis reveal:

  1. When Lucifer fell scripturally and the impact of his rebellion.

  2. The reason for the creation of Hell.

  3. Who or what is the light before the sun and moon's creation.

  4. The dividing firmaments or 'beaten-metal plates'.

Genesis 1:2 - “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

Due to the universal flood, there was death all over the world. In this case, death would stand for the evil spirit’s departing. These spirits went down to Hell. The word. “spirit” means life. When a spirit departs, it means death.

(Ecclesiastes 12:7) - At death, the (human) spirit departs to the LORD.

(2 Peter 2:4-5) - God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgement.

(1 Peter 3:19) - God preached unto the spirits in prison.

This is why Hell was formed. It was prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).
